A Slice of Family

When restaurant owners Ray and Ellen Azizian opened the doors of The Pizza Cookery, they wanted their customers to feel welcome and comfortable, as if they were visiting and having a meal with their family. The restaurant was an extension of their hospitality and their strong sense of community.
After being in business for 25 years, The Pizza Cookery still stands firm in their commitment to the community. Apart from the smell of fresh bread and garlic wafting from the kitchen, when you walk through their doors, you’ll notice their walls covered from floor to ceiling with plaques from local sports teams, spanning a couple generations.
“We’re huge on contributing to the community: sponsoring teams, helping the LAPD with their dinners, and just donating as much as we can, wherever we can,” stated Bernadet, the Azizian’s daughter who assists on the day to day operations of the restaurant.
“I’m usually here on Fridays and the weekends, helping out. The customers who walk through our doors become extended family. Some of them have been coming here since they were younger and know they’re bringing their kids.”
On school days, they offer a lunch special to students at the high school next door. A slice of pizza or chicken nuggets, with fries and a soda for only $5 is quite the student deal. At 3pm, the restaurant gets packed with students taking advantage of an amazing offer.
Lunch specials are available from 11am to 4pm as well as Happy Hour from 4pm-7pm. Both are available daily.
Every Sunday night from 5pm to 8pm, they have a magician who calls himself the “Magician Extraordinaire” to entertain families come in for dinner. Every card used for his magic tricks is displayed in several large frames at the back of the restaurant as a testament to its history and the number of families who’ve sat down for a meal on Sunday nights.
The Pizza Cookery is known for their famous garlic rolls, antipasto salads, and of course, their pizzas. Their pizza dough is made fresh everyday, with only the freshest ingredients as toppings. They are always open to customer feedback since they believe it’s a huge component of growing the restaurant.
“We really focus on that and keeping the tradition of what people come here for but we’re also trying to introduce new items that people are interested in and that are trending at the moment,” commented Bernadet.
