If you walk into Plaza Del Valle, right next to the playground, you will find the newest collectible store in Panarama City, the Flipz Collectibles. Owned by 818 local, Jonathan Mendez, the shop opened about four months ago and boasts of an extensive collection of Funko! Pops, anime posters, as well as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! trading cards.

A man of many hobbies, ranging from art, dancing, film and of course, collectibles, Jonathan was inspired by other shop owners to open a business where everyone from all walks of life can hang out, browse collectibles, and just enjoy the moment.

“I wanted to create a safe environment where you can just get lost into and forget the outside world for a little while,” Jonathan shares his inspiration for his new business. He aspires to grow his little shop into something that’s comparable to Frank & Sons Collectible Show, an indoor space with vendors selling comic books, collectibles, trading cards, actions figures, etc, in the City of Industry. And he takes his first steps into making that dream into a reality this weekend.

This Sunday, July 25th from 10am to 5pm, Flipz Collectibles will be hosting The Nerd Festival, the first event of this kind in the area, with over 25+ vendors. Admission is free and is open to the general public.

“The nerd festival is an event with the intention to connect with other people and expand your social network. My goal is to connect all small businesses and local vendors. We will have a variety of vendors, from collectibles to custom printed shirt, to handmade carvings. As with the intention to do big venues in the future, I want to have different communities unite to great something new in the heart of San Fernando Valley. I wish to bring the dance community to this environment. As a previous studio owner and dancer, I don’t believe that we should limit what we’re capable of doing. Always thrive to keep moving up.”
