Brewyard Beer Company: A Venture By Lifelong Friends

Sherwin Antonio and Kirk Nishikawa met in high school during the 90s: the age of baggy pants, Cool Water, and Tommy Hilfiger Jackets. It was a shared love of cars that brought these two together. Fast forward to December 5, 2015, these lifelong friends decided to open Brewyard Beer Company, the very first micro-brewery in their hometown of Glendale, CA.

Brewyard is known for their “Common” style Lager–a style of beer invented in the 1850s in California during the California Gold Rush for Californians. Their Jewel City brew (an homage to their hometown), is their very first Award Winning beer, and is also the inspiration for their entire Commons line-up which includes flavors ranging from hoppy, smoky, malty, and, yes, even coffee (-y). They also pay homage to Sherwin’s Filipino heritage with Ube Wan, a “purple yam” flavored IPA, and Kalinga, an unfiltered pilsner with Calamansi (Filipino lime).

Tune in as they talk about being in business for the past five and half years, their “Common” style lager, and the challenges brought about by the pandemic. They also chat about the importance of community and what it means to be the owners of Brewyard.
Visit their website or follow them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @brewyardbeerco.
